Getting Prepared

Well, Christmas is over and now we really begin to get ready for our adventure. We have been looking into airfares........yikes..... looks like this will run around $3500 for the family for the flights. Then we are checking on supplemental insurance including emergency evacuation coverage, etc. Locally we will meet with a "travel doctor" who will give us our malaria meds, and get us updated on tetanus, hepatitis, etc.

Today I ordered a bunch of "playground" stuff to take with us so we can play with the kids while we are there. We got things like: soccer balls, kick balls, tug-of-war rope, "American footballs", a parachute, etc. For Christmas, the kids got new hiking boots and the boys got small flashlights.

We leave in 7 weeks! Yee-ha.

It's Official

Well, it's official --- we have been accepted to travel to Honduras as a family (Charles, Ellen, Alexandra, Nate, and Chase) for 6+ weeks beginning in February 2008. We will be serving as short-term missionaries. We hope to be able to update this Blog from Honduras so you can keep track of our adventure. There may be times when it is impossible to update the Blog due to technical diffficulties. We will be relying on Internet Cafes in Honduras which means we are at the mercy of others to have online access.

Ellen and I have been travelling to Honduras and also leading Mission trips there since 2000. Ellen has a 6-month sabattical from the University of Indianapolis beginning in January 2008. It has been a dream of Ellen's for us to take our entire family on an extended mission trip like this for a long time. There are certain hurdles to overcome, but we are praying about all those and believe God will help us make this a smooth trip. My employer, Veros Partners, Inc., has been excellent at allowing me to take an unpaid leave-of-absence. This is a busy time of year for our firm and the timing for me being gone is not ideal. However, the clients will be well taken care of by our entire team during my absence.

We will be gone from approximately mid-February to the first week of April. We are officially going through World Gospel Mission and will be in or near Tegucigalpa - the capital of Honduras.

We are not exactly sure what we will be doing just yet...but in the past we have been involved with Project Manuelito, the Micah Dump Project, Hospital Loma de Luz, and Habitat for Humanity. We will definitely be involved with Project Manuelito on this trip -- working with kids. Project Manuelito is focused especially for girls and boys between 5 and 12 years that have been abandoned by their parents. They have a location in Talanga where the kids live, and go to school after they are rescued from the tough streets of Tegucigalpa.

As you get your updates from this Blog, please keep us in your prayers for safety, health, finances, and that God will use us as ambassadors to spread the good news of Jesus to others in Honduras.
